New Year Products

My wife wrote this blog

Hi everyone

It is a new year and a new year brings in new products & new scents.

You will find on your left a column of all the scents that Purrfect Scents carries.

I usually dabble on the side with two scents and find out that I enjoy experimenting with several fragrances as I usually do it personally with perfumes.

I cannot stick with one perfume scent as I usually mix two perfumes together to get the specific hue, heart and note I want.

I'd put on The Body Shop's Cinnamon Spice and Vanilla Musk on together and both oils do mix quite well to get the specific scent I want.

Now with candlemaking, I do need to be careful as some oils do have a certain heat point whereas some other oils are flexible.

Pumpkin Spice smells really wonderful by itself however I do add a hint of Cinammon to Pumpkin Spice so you do get your dollar's worth for that extra punch of scent.

I do the same for car air fresheners. I'll dabble with oils so the car air fresheners aren't all "feminine" so there are masculine scents. I do also carry earthy scents and aromatherapy scents.

I like Sage and Sweetgrass. It is very calming as well as lavender.

I've come across a great marketing idea and it is called 90 Love boxes. It is used mainly for fundraising since I am DeafBlind myself and want to help others fundraise money for themselves.

90 Love is a non profit organisation, welcoming both Deaf and DeafBlind people. The main focus is on DeafBlind people from Southwestern Ontario, Canada.

There is a dire need for financial and emotional support in the DB community here. I took it upon myself to do fundraising since I'm DB myself and I love working and just hate to sit down and do nothing.

I've come across wonderful people in real life and on line. They donated money already to 90 Love. Some declined the boxes and some said to focus on fundraising. Bless their hearts!

Tactile smile and 90 Love!

New products and silicone molds

I've been very busy these days making a lot more candle products and now it's time to post pictures to show what I've been making.

I also make embeds for the candles. I simply pour extra wax after pouring the wax from candlemaking into an unused cookie sheet that has expired its purpose. I use cookie cutters just for candlemaking. You can get them at Walmart's for only 97 cents or at a dollar store. It's just as good as using a fancy shmancy cookie cutter, you only want to have a sharp edge at the end.

Cut the wax when it is semi-soft, not when it is hardened. If you cut when it is hard, you can expect the wax to break. Cut when it is semi-soft and you can peel off the excess wax from the outside. Don't toss out the excess wax. Put it in a ziploc baggie and keep it for another purpose. Want not, waste not, my dears!!

I was so lucky to get a hold of this beautiful "ILY" silicone mold from a beautiful friend of mine. Her name is Michelle Schoppe Dupre and she does candlemaking as well. She does embeds. You can find her beautiful website where you can find her own beautiful personalised artwork of the ILY sign. I was thrilled to pieces when she sold me her "ILY" silicone molds and she kept 2 to herself. I wanted this kind because it is 3D as well. It is just perfect for fundraising for the CNIB.

Being DeafBlind, texture is so important for me and to learn that this silicone mold is 3D, I just had to grab this. This entry is for Michelle as this mold I just know will bring funds into fundraising. Thank you so much Michelle (deaffreckles) Tactile love to you, girl!

Rosehips, doilies & wreaths

I just love rosehips as they send off an amazing potent scent. Not only do rosehips look beautiful in so many ways, you can scatter several around candles, prims and you can make wreaths out of them with cinnamon sticks. This is what I did and the results were beautiful.

Photobucket

I took two coffee stained doilies and sewed them together to stuff the rosehips inside and this is how it turns out. Quite beautiful!

Coffee-staining is quite popular nowadays. I did this for all of my doilies and I just love how the results turned out. I'm not too fond of tea-staining as I don't get the results I want. Coffee-staining gives me the perfect colour I want. I do a three step process. I "marinate" the doilies in the sink with water and coffee grounds. I hang them to dry and then put them back in the sink with 1 part vinegar and 4 part water to set the stain. Hang them up to dry. Put them back in the water and add a wee drop of scented oil to get rid of the "vinegar-y" odour and hang up to dry completely.

This is what you have and they are amazing!

I have added a rusty collection to Purrfect Scents as I love rusty things so much. They are just good for about any room.

New products coming in

Hi there!

I have ordered new products and I will be making more candles. This is something I have always wanted to do since I started ordering The Out of the Box Sampler.

Ever since I received my very first sampler box, I was hooked on tarts, clamshell breakaways and pop-out tarts. They are just so beautiful!

I had to order the shells for each the breakaways and the pop-out tarts. I am thrilled to bits & pieces to start making more candles and much more variety in colour/scents as well.

Candles and tarts

I've been making quite a bit of candles and tarts this past week. I truly enjoy making unique scents and the tarts I made this week came out quite well. I made heavily scented pumpkin patch tarts and used brown/beige colour dye blocks. I was quite glad they came out quite nicely.

If you notice the nice grubby grungy vase, I actually made that myself. Just find a plain vase and use Modge Podge & a mixture of unused coffee grounds. I add a bit of cinnamon into the coffee grounds. I coat the vase with Modge Podge then add the coffee grounds, making sure not to bang the vase otherwise the grounds will fall off. Wait until it dries (24 hours is good). Coat the vase with Modge Podge for a glossy finish and you have a grubby grungy vase.

I use a battery operated votive to set off a soft hue for this lamp.

This is the candles that I spent quite a bit of time on. I am glad they came out quite well.
